Laser hair removal for face and body
No more waxing, razors or hair removal creams.
Laser hair removal is currently the safest and most effective method available for the permanent removal of unwanted hair from the face and body. It is not a temporary treatment: it acts directly on the hair follicle, destroying it selectively and permanently, without damaging the surrounding tissue. A complete laser hair removal programme equals freedom: freedom from the daily routine of hair removal, from skin irritation and from ingrown hairs.
What is laser hair removal and how does it work?
Laser hair removal works on the principle of selective photothermolysis: the light emitted by the laser is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle and converted into heat energy, which vaporises the hair bulb in a single pulse lasting one second. The surrounding skin tissue is not affected because the laser’s wavelength is calibrated to target only the hair pigment, sparing the other tissues.
The result is the gradual and permanent destruction of the treated hair follicles: hair by hair, session by session, regrowth is reduced until it disappears completely in the treated areas. Permanent laser hair removal is not a single treatment but a process that follows the hair’s biological cycle – only follicles in the active growth phase are effectively targeted – which is why several sessions spaced out over time are required.

Laser hair removal: areas of the body that can be treated
Face
The upper lip, chin, cheeks, sideburns and neck are the areas of the face most commonly treated. Laser facial hair removal is particularly suitable for women with dark, visible facial hair, and for men who wish to reduce or remove facial hair in specific areas. It requires a precise technique to follow the natural contours of the face.
Underarms and arms
The underarms are among the most popular areas for permanent laser hair removal: the hair is typically dark, the contrast with fair skin is high, and the results are among the quickest and most visible of the entire treatment programme. The arms, from the forearm to the shoulder, are treated with the same effectiveness.
Bikini line and groin area
Treatments for the bikini line – whether partial, Brazilian or full – are among the most frequently requested procedures at the laser hair removal centre. The groin area is particularly prone to irritation, ingrown hairs and razor burn: laser hair removal tackles these problems at their root, providing a permanent solution.
Legs
The legs are the largest area to be treated. From the thigh to the foot, laser hair removal for the legs requires an appropriate number of sessions and high-performance technology to cover large areas whilst ensuring effective and even results.
Back, chest and abdomen
Permanent hair removal on the back, chest and abdomen is increasingly in demand. Lumenis Lightsheer technology enables large areas to be treated quickly, with consistent and long-lasting results.
Who is laser hair removal suitable for?
Permanent laser hair removal delivers the best results on dark hair and fair skin, where the contrast between the hair and the skin is greatest.
It is not suitable for white, grey or very light-coloured hair, which lacks melanin and does not absorb the laser energy. Before beginning the personalised laser hair removal treatment, Dr Garavaglia carries out an assessment of the patient’s skin phototype and hair type in order to establish realistic expectations for the treatment and determine the most effective treatment plan.
How does a laser hair removal session work?
Permanent laser hair removal: how many sessions are needed and what to expect
The standard laser hair removal course involves a minimum of 6 sessions spaced 4–5 weeks apart, an interval that corresponds to the average duration of the hair growth cycle. Not all hair follicles are in the active phase at the same time: sessions carried out in quick succession make it possible to gradually target all hairs during their optimal growth phase for treatment.
At the end of the course of treatment, hair reduction is significant and permanent in the treated areas: many patients experience almost no regrowth, whilst others require a few annual maintenance sessions to deal with the few remaining hairs. The result depends on the colour and thickness of the hair, skin phototype and individual response to the treatment.
